We publish the raw, real, horrible, and ugly things kept locked away in your soul. We are a magazine from your nightmares. We are a collective of writers, poets, and artists who enjoy the macabre, the dark, the twisted, and the unsettling.

We accept all dark work, no matter the rage or sorrow poured into it. We were established by a poet who was tired of censoring herself to make others comfortable. Some of her best work was the darkest in themes, and she wanted a place to be able to share those things where she wouldn't be scrutinized. She wants to give others the chance to do the same.

The Samhain Moon Literary Magazine

For issue 2, Samhain Moon wanted to focus on trauma and all its forms. How it manifests, how it harms, and how it speaks, how it grows and shrivels up, how it devours and seeps. Trauma's definition is "a distressing experience that overwhelms a person's ability to cope, causing significant emotional, psychological, and sometimes physical harm with lasting negative effects, stemming from events like abuse, accidents, violence, or disasters that disrupt one's sense of safety and well-being". We want poetry, art, journal entries, and stories that involve some sort of trauma, the aftermath of trauma, and how one heals from trauma. Nothing is too much. We do ask that you PLEASE ADD TRIGGER WARNINGS TO THE BEGINNING OF YOUR WORK! It is paramount for the safety of others for you to put trigger warnings before your piece!

Issue 2 'Trauma'

Our first issue will be an unthemed mini issue. The deadline is October 7th! We are taking all sorts of media except video and audio pieces - we don't know how to incorporate those into the issue yet, but we are learning as we go! We decided not to do a theme to get everyone's creativity flowing. There's nothing better than a little chaos!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact us on Instagram @the_samhain.moon_lit_mag. The editor in chief, Star Galasyn, will answer you as soon as she can!

First Unthemed Mini Issue and Blogs For Instagram!

What happens at night, when the sun goes away, and the shadows come out to play? What happens in your sleep, what happens under the glow of the streetlights, of the stars above? Write/draw/create a scene for us about a sleepless night. What occurs when the world is quiet? What monsters lurk out there? What keeps you awake? What drives you from your bed? What makes you toss and turn, restless? That is what we want. Capture that, and bring it to us in a poem, a short story, a comic, a painting, or photography. Check our Instagram for more information!

Third Issue 'Sleepless Midnights'
