This is not a submission call for publication. You can upload your story to receive brief editorial feedback, typically 1-2 lines. Feedback will be based on craft and merit, not our subjective tastes.

Guidelines:
- 3000 words max, up to 2 stories
- You can send excerpts of longer works
- No format formalities here, just make sure the font is readable
- No AI generated work please.
- Fiction only, please. You can send CNF if you'd like but we specialize in fiction, so keep that in mind.
- No pieces that are relevant to any religion or any religious concept.

We typically open for feedback every weekend. Come back as often as you like!

Feedback Weekend - Not Publication Call

We can't beat subjectivity, but we can temper it.

An excellent story shouldn't be rejected because of vibes, whims, or pure personal taste. We use a rubric to evaluate stories. The rubric aims to highlight craft and skill without letting a story get weighed down by factors beyond a writer's control.

When submission's open, we post a character prompt. The story, however, is yours. The character must start the story in their prompted state, but how they evolve from there, if they do, is completely up to you.

Fishlock is an independent press dedicated to publishing books that renew a sense of curiosity.

Fishlock is a new independent press based in London. With every book we publish, we strive to embolden our readers’ lives, to spark curiosity, and unearth a deeper understanding of the experiences of others.

Fishlock is founded by writer, bookseller and collage artist, Polly Smith. Polly entered the publishing world in 2018; driving to the Frankfurt Book Fair as a determined English Literature student in search of a job. A month later, she started her first publishing internship and has never looked back. With a wealth of experience in publishing, agenting, bookselling and events, founding an independent press is an exciting next step.

With the same avidity that took her to Frankfurt Book Fair, Polly has already secured interest from major independent bookshops in London, as well as an independent fulfilment centre that will ship books to readers across the UK.
