Launched in 2019, Black Fork Review is run by students and alumni from Ashland University and supported by Ashland Poetry Press. 

We love work that makes us consider the world and our lives in new and unexpected ways. Art can profoundly affect and connect communities. We seek work that makes us pause, challenges us, work that both interrogates and honors humanity. 

The Black Fork Review

Please submit book reviews between 500 and 1000 words, one review at a time.  In your cover letter, please include a brief third-person bio, including your social media handles and/ or website.

  All written submissions must be in a Word doc, double spaced, with 12-point Times New Roman font. 
  All books reviewed should have been released within the last two years.
  Since we are on a university schedule, we try to respond to all submissions within three months.

Reviews

We do not accept previously published work.
  We accept simultaneous submissions, but please withdraw your piece immediately if it is accepted elsewhere.
  Writers/artists may send only one submission per genre per reading period. 
  All art submissions must be in .jpg or .png format. 
  In your cover letter, please include a brief third-person bio. 
  Since we are on a university schedule, we try to respond to all submissions within three months.

Visual Art

Please submit up to 2000 words of nonfiction, either one piece or multiple flash pieces. In your cover letter, please include a brief third-person bio and social media handle/ website link.  
  We do not accept previously published work.
  We accept simultaneous submissions, but please withdraw your piece immediately if it is accepted elsewhere.

General Creative Nonfiction
