About the workshop
For 5-weeks, SCREENPLAYS BY BADASS WOMEN offers a supportive, uproariously fun, and explorative kaleidoscope of screenwriting study AND practice!
Details
We will deep-dive several of the most groundbreaking screenplays by women, engage in conversation about what exactly these cinematic worlds offer that’s brilliantly off-kilter and essential, as well as WRITE diligently into our own screenplays. Weekly sessions will toggle between these three elements—study, community exploration, writing—connecting the dots between our lived experiences on Planet Patriarchy, the historically marginalized “female gaze,” astute screenwriting craft, direct feedback from Lauren, and a fresh rubric to bring your screenplay into its full, gobsmacking potential.
What you will be reading
Screenwriters we'll study include: Callie Khouri, Nicole Holofcener, Greta Gerwig, Melissa Mathison, Mindy Kaling, Katie Dippold, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Sharon Horgan (among others).
Additional info
Because everyone is moving at their own pace, this course is appropriate for all screenwriting levels—from beginner to experienced. All female-identifying writers welcome! Roll up your sleeves, sit your ass in that chair, and become a goddamn legend already.

About the instructor
Lauren Veloski is a screenwriter, comedy writer, and brave champion of the flip phone. Her first feature script, the indie comedy “SORRY, THANKS,” was praised by Lena Dunham for writing “as seamless as any studio rom-com—if studio rom-coms had astute, nuanced dialogue.” An “unromantic comedy” about the wreckage wrought by casual douchebaggery, “SORRY, THANKS” world-premiered at the SXSW Film Festival, played 15 fests internationally, and was acquired by IFC/Sundance. After 15 years as the “story brain in the room” on countless television and film projects, Lauren launched her creative coaching company, THAT’S BANANAS, in 2022. Through THAT'S BANANAS, she does what she most loves: working one-on-one with writers at all levels, helping them come into their badassery and power on the page.
