About the event
Join us for a day of writing during our monthly virtual retreat! You will have the opportunity to write alongside other writers in real time and learn from authors in the industry. This will be a time of encouragement and a chance to make real progress!
Details
Whether you’re just thinking about an idea, just starting a project or are deep into revisions, this is for you.
This retreat also includes an hour-long craft chat and Q&A with Amanda Montei, who will discuss how she blends personal writing with research, culture writing, and other nonfiction. She will also talk about the state of memoir and the essay today, and how to embrace the limits of our own subjective experiences in nonfiction.
Wherever you are in your process, we welcome you with open arms. You don’t have to write alone. Your art matters. Time to deepen your love for your own work and set it into motion.

This retreat includes:
• 2 one-hour live writing sessions over Zoom
• Breaks in between sessions
• 1 hour-long author chat and open Q&A with Amanda Montei
• Resources and author notes sent via email at the end of the retreat
• Generative writing prompts before each session to get you started

Amanda Montei
Amanda Montei is the author of Touched Out: Motherhood, Misogyny, Consent, and Control, published by Beacon Press in September 2023, as well as the memoir Two Memoirs (Jaded Ibis), and a collection of prose, The Failure Age (Bloof Books). She holds an MFA from California Institute of the Arts and a PhD from the Poetics Program at SUNY Buffalo. Her work has been featured at/in The Cut, Slate, Poetry Foundation, The Believer, Vox, HuffPost, Rumpus, Salon, Ms. Magazine, and numerous literary journals and scholarly publications. She lives in California, where she grew up.

Tamar is the fiction editor of Write or Die Magazine. Her work appears at Literary Mama and Coffee and Crumbs. She is working on her first novel, which was long-listed for The Master's Review 2021 Novel Excerpt Contest. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two children
