A hybrid online chapbook and literary journal, publishing an annual anthology of fiction, CNF and poetry, one-author prose collections (fiction or CNF chapbooks) twice a year, and periodic micro-prose features. Our prose collections are also published as kindles. All authors are paid. 

As of April 2025, we have published 54 online chapbooks — 27 fiction, 7 CNF/memoir and 5 poetry collections, each featuring one author — and 15 anthologies by multiple authors. The anthologies may also be downloaded as pdfs. Most of the collections are available as epubs.

We are always excited to showcase talented writers, whether they be emerging authors or old hands with a long list of publishing credits. We read submissions anonymously, on the alert for genuinely excellent writing.

Wordrunner eChapbooks

Submit up to three flash fictions (500 to 1,000 words each), or one short story or novel excerpt (up to 5,000 words). We want emotional complexity and nuanced characters in prose pieces, as well as precise and telling language. We do not want genre fiction (horror, supernatural, fantasy). Science fiction is acceptable if it is character driven. Historical fiction is also of interest.

Annual anthology

Submit up to three flash nonfictions (500 to 1,000 words each), or one CNF/memoir excerpt or a personal essay (up to 5,000 words). We want emotional complexity and nuanced characters in prose pieces, as well as precise and telling language. 

Submit up to three poems (no longer than a page each). Surprise and delight us with fresh language and boundary-breaking daring. Show us something we have never seen before, but have always felt is true. Uncover or discover a new mode of expression, inextricably wed to its message. 

Wordrunner eChapbooks will select one fiction and one nonfiction collection for our 2025 eChapbook series, to be published in September and December, respectively, online and as kindles. Maximum word count: 20,000. Prose pieces may be flash or longer, from 500 up to 5,000 words each. We’d like four to six stories or essays or, if the pieces are flash, a maximum of 15. At least one-fourth of any collection should be previously unpublished. Deadline is July 31, 2025.
Stories need not be linked, but it would  be a plus if they belong together for some reason, be it theme, location  or character/s. Essay collection
