How to submit

Process

We welcome submissions in English, from anywhere in the world written by an individual at any stage in their career. However, whenever we can, we give reading and publication precedence to students currently on a related postgraduate course (i.e. Creative Writing, English Literature or Journalism) or, alternatively, who have recently graduated and have yet to publish a major work. Writers maintain copyright to their work. The Cardiff Review is granted first serial rights and acknowledgement should the work be published elsewhere in the future. Regrettably, we are unable to offer compensation at this time.

Cover letters

A short bio, that includes relevant social media handles, in the body of your email is recommended, as it will be included with the piece should it be chosen for publication. We encourage you to also include the following in your email submission if applicable, though it is not required:

About the Magazine

Founded in 2015 | United Kingdom

The Cardiff Review is an international literary magazine. Founded in 2015 by four graduate students of Cardiff University’s MA in Creative Writing program, The Review‘s first iteration was a digital magazine that published three issues. For the magazine’s fourth issue, Summer 2016, we transitioned to print. The issue featured an interview with Canadian actor and author, Sofia Banzhaf, who also appeared on the cover, shot by Toronto-based photographer Mark Sommerfeld. In the two years that followed, we published an additional seven print issues, including a themed issue around queerness. In 2018, we made the decision to move the magazine entirely online, in an effort to publish more content, more often. To date, we’ve published upwards of 150 new voices across fiction, nonfiction and poetry, as well as interviews with some of literature’s most renowned writers including Sheila Heti, Iain Reid, Richard Gwyn, Thomas Morris, and Sophie Mackintosh.
