A 501(c)(3) organization with a volunteer Board and a small team of volunteer editors and social media and marketing specialists. Most of our volunteers are part of the U.S. Foreign Service community.

Tales from a Small Planet (Tales) went online in 1999 as www.talesmag.com and has proven its staying power with the dedication of its semi-volunteer team. The founders of Tales were accompanying spouses of U.S. diplomats, concerned with sharing information to help families like theirs make good decisions when seeking a new posting, especially taking into account the well-being of accompanying spouses, partners, children and other family members, many with special needs. The team quickly expanded the site’s reach to all those who might be choosing a new country of residence, including development workers, international educators, corporate employees, retirees, Peace Corps volunteers, entrepreneurs, consultants, and many more.

General call

Created by and for people like you, Real School Reports offer personal insights by fellow parents about the schools their children attend. The more people share their local knowledge, the fresher and more relevant our information stays. So thank you for adding your voice!

A few points to keep in mind:

FORM TIMING: To avoid losing your work, consider drafting your answers in a separate document and copying them in when ready.
SKIPPING QUESTIONS: If a question doesn’t apply, simply leave it blank; unused fields won’t appear in your final report.
SHARING EXPERIENCES: Your direct, personal experience is invaluable and we love anecdotes or examples which may be helpful to other families. Please stick to your own experiences and avoid broad generalizations (e.g., “my child experienced bullying and the administration did not address it” is helpful and specific; “this school tolerates bullying” is not).
EDITING: All Real School Reports will be edited prior to publishing. Please feel free to contact us should you take issue with the way your report has been edited.
Note: The School Report form will time out after 4 hours and fail to submit (Saving your progress will reset the 4 hour time limit). If you think you might need more than 4 hours before saving your progress or completing the form we recommend first saving your answers in a separate document. This is necessary for security and to avoid requiring you to create an account and log in when you visit our site. Thank you very much!
