SWWIM (Supporting Women Writers in Miami) was co-founded by Jen Karetnick and Catherine Esposito Prescott. SWWIM publishes, promotes, and celebrates women writers, trans and cis women, nonbinary, intersex, and other gender-expansive communities, with a year-round reading series held at The Betsy-South Beach in Miami Beach, FL and the online poetry journal SWWIM Every Day. 

Poems first published in SWWIM Every Day have been included in Best American Poetry and the Best American Poetry blog, Best of the Net, The Orison Anthology, Poets.org, Poetry Daily, The Slowdown, Substack Reads, The Writer’s Almanac, and Women's Voices for Change, among other anthologies, podcasts, and columns, and have garnered Pushcart nominations from contributing editors.

SWWIM Every Day (Supporting Women Writers in Miami Every Day)

I always relate to and resonate with the poems in this journal. Frequently I also learn new writing techniques or get new ideas. This is a top favorite for me.

The residency is open to woman-identifying (she/her or she/they) writers over the age of 25. Hybrid and multi-genre writers are encouraged to apply as long as the writing sample itself is poetry. The residency includes a four-day, three-night stay in The Writers Room at The Betsy-South Beach, a luxury, boutique hotel devoted to the arts and philanthropy located on iconic Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, Florida. The residency also includes a per diem to be used at any of The Betsy’s restaurants. Writers are required to participate in one (1) event during their residency: A poetry reading (paired with a local poet). Writers are responsible for their travel to and from Miami as well as incidental expenses. Dates for residencies are determined after the residencies are awarded and scheduled around the writers' responsibilities. If a poet cannot attend their residency after the scheduled dates have been confirmed, the residency will be forfeited but they may reapply the following year without penalty. The application fee is $40, with fee waivers available upon request. Application requires a short bio (75 words), a 10-page poetry work sample, and a cover letter. SWWIM Poetry Residency @ The Betsy-South Beach

Send 1-3 previously unpublished poems of any form or style (including visual poetry and translations) in one file.
Title your submission file: LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME (ex: DOE_JANE)
Include a third-person, 75-word bio with your submission. We reserve the right to edit your bio for length and clarity. If submitting a translation, use both bio fields (one for the poet and one for the translator).
Simultaneous submissions are welcome as long as we are contacted as soon as a poem is no longer available. Should you need to withdraw a poem, please send us a message through Submittable using the “Messages” function. Do not use the “Notes” function as this does not send us an email. Do not withdraw your entire submission unless you intend to withdraw all of your work. For any other matters, please email us at swwimmiami@gmail.com. Please do not DM regarding poem withdrawals.
Revisions while your poems are being considered will not be considered. If you'd like to submit a revision, please withdraw your submission and resubmit through the portal.
Please do not send revisions of previously declined poems.
AI-generated content will not be considered.
Multiple submissions will not be considered.
Pulling your poem after acceptance is highly discouraged, as it wastes the valuable time and effort of the readers and editors who have deliberated over it. Please be sure you are sending polished work that you want to see published in SWWIM Every Day.
If you have published a poem with SWWIM Every Day, please wait six months before sending us new work.

SWWIM Every Day publishes poems by women-identifying writers and all gender-expansive definitions of that term. Women of all ages, cultures, disabilities, ethnicities, expressions, neurodiversities, orientations, and races are encouraged to submit poems on a variety of themes and subjects in a variety of poetic forms. Please note: Despite our organization’s name and its many puns, we do not favor nor do we seek poems about swimming.
SWWIM Every Day goes on a publishing hiatus twice a year, from July-August (two months) and from the last week of December through the first week of January (two weeks). We still welcome submissions and actively read and respond during those times, but our response time is slower than usual.
SWWIM Every Day is a non-paying market. We promote posts on social media sites including but not limited to Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), Bluesky, Instagram, and Threads, and we nominate poems for the Best of the Net, Best New Poets, Pushcart Prize, and other award anthologies where appropriate.
SWWIM Every Day retains First North American Serial Rights, digital rights, the rights to archive work, and the rights to reproduce it in anthology form. Following publication, all rights revert to the author. We ask that you credit SWWIM Every Day as the journal where your work first appeared.
Submissions that fail to follow these guidelines will be declined unread and any fees paid will be forfeited.
