Since 1990, the Sierra Nevada Review has been publishing daring new poetry, short fiction, and literary nonfiction from the shores of Lake Tahoe. 

The Sierra Nevada Review, established in 1990, is a literary magazine that publishes daring new poetry, short fiction, literary nonfiction, and visual art from the shores of North Lake Tahoe. 

Our mission is to make space for writing that makes us feel alive, for urgent work that considers our present culture and explores relevant topics like art, consumerism, labor, resistance, diaspora, and the environment. We believe that all art is political. We’re partial to work with multiple facets of potential meaning that deepens upon rereading. Above all, we’re looking for strong voices and compelling narratives.

As of 2023, it has transitioned to a digital-only publication, releasing two original issues annually: the Spring Issue on March 1 and the Fall Issue on September 1.  Our submission periods are from April 1st to June 1st for our fall issue and October 1st to December 1st for our Spring issue.

 Please upload no more than three poems (up to six pages). We require that you use a 12pt serif font such as Times New Roman.

 Remember:

  Please send only one submission per reading period, in one genre only. Submitting more than once will automatically disqualify all submissions.
  We gladly accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if your work has been accepted elsewhere! If you only wish to withdraw part of a submission, please leave us a note on Submittable. We do not consider previously published material.
  Please do not include a cover letter or any identifying information in your uploaded file.
  Students enrolled in any low-residency program at UNR-LT cannot submit.

    Original creative literary nonfiction <4,000 words. We require that you use a 12pt serif font such as Times New Roman.
    We welcome flash CNF, and you may submit more than one flash piece, up to three, as long as your total word count does not exceed 4,000 words.
