Sheepshead Review went in 2007 to give our visual arts contributors the image quality their work deserves (and also to give our graphics team a bigger design playground). Eeach of our issues takes on a new form, each champion the same spirit of creativity...

We publish original, creative, and previously unpublished work from all levels of expertise, whether you are a new creator, a high school or college student, or a widely-published artist. Our print issues accept fiction, nonfiction, visual arts, and poetry. Online, you can find samples of these works, as well as interactive and digital media like games, animations, and original music compositions.

Fall 2025 Digital and Interactive Media

Fiction Genre Guidelines
The fiction staff is looking for unique, well-crafted pieces. Keeping the story interesting is a must, while never losing control of reality unless intentionally unrealistic—and a fitting ending never hurt anyone, either. While traditionally rooted stories are a staple of our journal, our staff also appreciates the strange and unusual. This doesn't mean we are looking for pieces with shock value—everything must be done in good taste.

  Maximum of three (3) submissions
  3,000 word limit

Please remove your name from your piece. If you are a current student, please use your UWGB e-mail. If you are a high school student, please include the name of your high school in the cover letter section.

If your piece is interactive, digital, or multimodal, please submit it to our Digital/Interactive Media submission category.

Fall 2025 Fiction

Poetry Genre Guidelines
We are looking for submissions with a honed edge—fresh and lucid content, palpable imagery, and an audible attention to sound. Cliché is your mortal enemy. We read free-verse to formal, and everything in between. Don’t forget form can speak as much as your title, and your title as loud as your lines. Be bold. Be brilliant. Take risks. We look forward to reading your work.

  Maximum of three (3) poems
Poems may be submitted in one document
Format the title of your submission as follows:

“Title of Poem 1”, “Title of Poem 2”, “Title of Poem 3”

If your piece is interactive, digital, or multimodal, please submit it to our Digital/Interactive Media submission category.
