Founded in 1999 as a humor newsletter sent from an Emory University dorm room, PIC moved online in 2000, where it has remained despite every turn the internet has taken since. Along the way, it has reached more than 50 million readers with satire, stories, essays, lists, jokes, and other funny writing across a wide range of styles and formats.

Today, PIC also serves as a professional home for literary humor writers. We offer submission feedback, coaching, and practical resources for writing, publishing, and sharing original humor. Writers can create customizable Author Pages that bring their work together in one public portfolio, while our publication directory and community links help people discover more literary humor across the web.

General call

PIC is looking for creative, thematic, and entertaining Comedy Articles preferably 600-1,000 words. The ideal submission is irreverent but approachable, laugh out loud funny or bitingly witty, spell-checked and at least lightly copyedited, with a descriptive but catchy title. We're not afraid to take chances on a variety of humor styles and formats, but your article should be funny in standalone fashion.
Contributor payment is $35 per article.
Payments are typically sent within 5 days of acceptance. Our average response time is 14 days, and we reply to every submission.

  Register a PIC account here before submitting! This is where all of your published work will go. Upload your photo and fill out as much info as possible; readers are curious. Note that your Submittable account is only used to manage submissions, and is entirely separate from your PIC account.
  Submit one article at a time. After receiving a decision, feel free to submit again right away.
  If your article is co-authored, be sure each author has registered their own PIC account, and then note the names of all co-authors in the comments.
  Simultaneous submissions are ok, but please withdraw your submission immediately if accepted elsewhere.
  We don't accept satire news, or articles already published anywhere, for any reason.
  We don't accept writing aided by AI. Please do not use AI to assist in the writing of your work.

Articles

PIC is looking for Funny Lists preferably 200-600 words. Lists, quizzes, reviews, and any non-paragraph-style or short creative formats typically involving a series of beats are welcomed. Lists should have a catchy title reflecting a strong premise—for a list, the title may be what ends up selling us.
