Cover letter
We don't require a cover letter, but we do include a bio before the piece in the journal to celebrate the creator! - write in third person (please!) - keep it short (under 75 words is strongly suggested) - don't include websites/social media as we have a separate section for this

Teen creators are strongly suggested. (Ages 30+ are unfortunately not what we publish, though you may still submit if you are a new creator and feel your work fits well.)Formatting
Fiction Writing (Short story): - Word limit of 1500 - Be creative! - No profanity - Submission must be docx. or .pdf Flash Fiction: - Word limit of 500 - Be creative! - No profanity - Submission must be docx. or .pdf Poetry: - Limit of 15 stanzas (can split into multiple poems, but these poems must connect. The Kathai Literary Journal is part of the Kathai Teen Literary Organization, which is dedicated to helping teens get involved in the publishing industry. So, many of our successful submitters also go on to become Kathai Ambassadors, who read Advanced Reader Copies of books, interview authors, and start book clubs. Check out our website for more info! Teens/young people only. 30+ not accepted into that program specifically as a hard rule, but are still considered for the literary journal.
