Frozen Sea is excited by a wide range of poetry. We love playing tennis without the net so of course we'll consider free-verse, as well as the carefully-constructed corsetry of form.

We aspire to, and work towards, anti-imperialism, anti-capitalism, anti-fascism, anti-racism, anti-misogyny, anti-transphobia, and anti-homophobia through publishing and in our personal lives.

A large part of our mission is to publish exciting emerging poets who have not yet, or have recently, published a full-length collection. Feel free to send work if you don’t quite fit that category—we hope to lead readers to their next favorite poets.

We have a preference for publishing queer writers, being queer ourselves. 

We also publish visual art and hybrid forms, acknowledging that poetry does not have to be confined to the written word.

We like concision, compression, and brevity. Poems over 25 or so lines often feel long for us, and lines longer than 50 characters don't display well on our website.

We have a focus on early-career poets (meaning: poets who have not yet published a full-length book or have recently published a full-length book) but we accept work from established poets as well. We want to lead people to their next favorite poets. We also have a focus on publishing queer artists, being queer ourselves. You do not have to identify as queer to submit, but you do have to be cool about the possibility of being published in a queer-affiliated journal and treat that with respect.
