If you've never written a bio before, don't sweat it. Our mentor gave us this advice: stay concise, advertise yourself, and make it match your personality. Take one of our editor's bio as an example: Shauri Cherie is easily excited by travel, curry, and stingrays, and she is surprisingly feral at concerts. Find her work in Sink Hollow, Kolob Canyon Review, The Southern Quill, and forthcoming in Constellations. If you're an emerging writer, say it! There's no shame at all in saying that you're just starting out or that this is your first publication. In fact, we kind of really like knowing that we're getting to publish you first (and people will love knowing they're reading your debut piece).

  • Eligibility

Our only bar is that you be over 18. That said, we do encourage and welcome submissions from all marginalized voices. The human experience is diverse; our magazine should reflect that.

  • Formatting

For prose, format as Times New Roman, 12 pt., double-spaced. We get that poetry's going to be much more experimental at times and that spacing is much more important, so stay as close to the formatting guideline as possible, and we'll chalk the rest up to creative liberty.

  • Author's rights

We take first world English rights for physical and electronic publication, exclusive until our publication. All rights will then revert to you. We also take nonexclusive archival rights, which allow us to display and house your work on our site for a maximum of five years. We reserve the right to submit to third parties for awards and secondary markets because we want to help you grow your audience. For example, Pushcart Prizes and Verse Daily.
