How to submit

  • Processs

    Submittable

  • Cover letter

Cover letters aren't going to make or break your likelihood of publication. However... - Include your age so we can keep track of how many young writers we receive submissions from and publish! - If you are submitting as a part of a class assignment, please include your teacher's name in your cover letter. - Let us know if this is a simultaneous submission (which is a-okay in our book!)

  • Eligibility

    Other, Over18, Young Creators

  • Formatting

Please do not include a cover letter in your writing file. We require poems to be submitted separately (as the genre is often subjective) so we can get a variety of readers reviewing your work. Submit in a typed, legible font. Docx or PDF files preferred.

  • Author's rights

When your work is accepted by Ember and you accept our offer to publish it, we are purchasing worldwide exclusive First Publication rights to distribute the text in multiple print and electronic formats for twelve months from acceptance or six months from publication, whichever is earlier, and a three-year non-exclusive worldwide license from the date of publication to continue to publish your work in other formats as part of the anthology volume in which it was first published without extending the license term and without constituting a new publication, and to keep that discrete anthology available in our salable inventory throughout that term.

  • Additional info

Make you feel at home: cozy, meme-friendly, a sense of community, all that stuff Active on social media Pays! "$0.02/word or $20 a piece, whichever puts more money in your pockets!" Offers optional free feedback Because we are a publication for middle grade readers, please do not submit anything with sex, graphic violence, or sexual acts. Allusions are fine, if done subtly and tastefully. Before submitting, think to yourself: Would I want someone as young as 10 reading this?
