One short story (500-3,000 words), or up to two flash fiction stories (fewer than 1,000 words each). Calliope is open to any genre of short fiction, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, and all their sub-genres. Mixed genre stories and experimental forms are also welcome. Mainstream/literary stories will be considered if they are in some way out of the ordinary.

Nonfiction should address information writers would find helpful or instructional in honing their craft. Articles on subjects other than writing are seldom considered. Writing-related articles: how-tos, motivational pieces, time management, writing conference experiences, etc.

All subject matter (except erotica, explicit violence and sex) will be considered, but language should conform to community and tasteful standards. Lines wider than 45 characters will likely wrap to another line. If more than a line or two exceed the 45-character limit, we may reject the poem or offer online-only publication.
