Anomaly is currently seeking impact poetry. We are seeking poems that challenge the history and currents of the English language, poems that unsettle cultural norms, poems that utilize language to contest and remake the world. We seek poems that confront gender formations, white supremacy, class, body, possibility. We are seeking for poetry rooted in the radical imagination. We hope to find you.

Creative Nonfiction

Translation at Anomalous Press seeks not only to publish literary work in translation, but to be translation-forward. We're excited about a wide range of submissions, but especially compelled by work that is recalcitrant, wayward, rebellious, whether formally, linguistically, politically, generically, or in some clever way that hasn't occurred to us yet. Send us work that expands our literary, linguistic, or cultural horizons; work that knows translation is a conversation; important voices that have been marginalized; voices too contemporary, too rooted, or too resistant to have yet reached English-reading ears. Show us the world.



Prose: Up to 5000 words, double-spaced in 12-pt font. Stand-alone excerpts of longer works are welcome.

Poetry: 1-6 poems, or up to 10 pages.


At the top of the first page, you must include the following header:

Strongly recommended: a brief cover letter that contextualizes the text, author, and/or translation process. If accepted, we ask that this be revised.

We’re looking for writers who are interested in contributing in an ongoing manner to the ANMLY Blog, either by proposing a column or series, or by joining a team of staff writers who both pitch and take on assigned pieces for the blog. We are particularly interested in writers to focus on reviews, interviews, and profiles of artists and writers; and in getting pitches for columns or series that focus specifically on a particular artistic or writing community within the purview of our expanded mission. ANMLY is now open for our new folio exploring the yard as the site in which we understand modern Caribbean geography and social life.<div><br></div><div>We’re seeking previously-unpublished poetry, creative nonfiction, and art. Absolutely no AI.</div><div><br></div><div>Deadline: August 14th, 2026</div><div><br></div><div>This collection of work, featuring genres of poetry, art and creative non-fiction essays, will explore the yard as the site in which we understand modern Caribbean geography and social life. From the iconic “government yard in Trenchtown” of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” to the rural fields and estates passed down through generations, the yard is a site of memory, history, and the everyday poetics of survival and community.</div><div><br></div><div>The yard’s significance is rooted in the post-plantation society, where descendants of Indigenous, African and Indian peoples carved out new forms of life and autonomy. These spaces, whether in urban margins or inherited homes, are where personal and family histories are woven, where futures are imagined, and where the senses of a people are shaped. We have tidy yards, dirty yards, ghetto yards, tenement yards, barrack yards and grandmothers’ yards.</div><div><br></div><div>This folio is a deliberate disruption of two prevalent stereotypes: (1)The Caribbean as a “paradise” of “free island people” to reveal the complexity and nuance of lived experiences. (2) The “Caribbean writer” as a person’s region stands in for their entire identity.</div><div><br></div><div>Selected pieces will amplify unique and diverse voices within the region, celebrate their individuality while acknowledging the shared historical and cultural landscape of yards.
