How to submit

  • Processs

    Email

  • Cover letter

Include a cover letter with all contact information, a third person lit bio.

  • Eligibility

    No specific eligibility requirements

  • Formatting

All short fiction submissions of more than 1,000 words must be in William Shunn Manuscript Format. This especially means do not underline instead of using italics. And we’ve a preference for one space after a period, not two.

  • Author's rights

All rights revert to the poet upon publication, but we ask you cite/acknowledge Abyss & Apex as first place of publication should your work be reprinted or shared in any other media.

  • Additional info

"We are overstocked with fiction scheduled until mid 2024. Therefore 2022 FICTION SUBMISSIONS will be closed for all of 2022." "Submissions sent outside our submission periods will be deleted unread." Not interested in publishing horror or anything with a political slant. Simultaneous submissions are okay only for poetry submissions. Payment for FICTION: "Payment is USD $.08/word (eight cents a word) up to 1,000 words, and a flat payment of $80.00 for longer stories. We pay 30 days after publication. We prefer to make author payments via PayPal (especially if you reside outside of the United States). If this is unacceptable please let us know and we will make other arrangements." Payment for POETRY: "$5.50 per poem so that if PayPal takes 50 cents you still have a qualifying sale for genre poetry awards."
