Royal Society of Literature

The annual award of £10,000 for a distinguished work of fiction, non-fiction or poetry, evoking the spirit of a place.

Must be someone who is a citizen of the UK, Commonwealth or Republic of Ireland, or a writer who has been resident in the UK for three years.

All entries must be published (in any format) for the first time in the UK or RoI within the previous calendar year, i.e. January-December. Previous publication of the book outside of the UK does not disqualify it.

The book must be a unified and substantial work. Collections of short stories, novellas or children’s books are not eligible.

Self-published books are not eligible.

RSL Ondaatje Prize

Must be a citizen or resident of the UK, the Commonwealth, or Ireland.

All entries must be published for the first time in the UK/ Ireland in 2022.

"Books may be entered only by trade publishers based in the UK or RoI. Each publisher, or imprint of a publisher, may enter one book only and up to three call-in titles. Authors may not enter themselves."
