Following his graduation from Texas State University in 2018, Warren Stoddard II traveled to Syria to fight as a member of the Kurdish YPG in the war against the ISIS, where he was later wounded in action. He returned to the US, worked in a motorcycle shop, then volunteered in the international response to Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine and the defense of the city of Mykolaiv. He earned his MFA from San Diego State University and currently teaches writing at the University of San Diego.
