In ways subtle and outlandish, movies tell us where our world is going -- or sometimes where it should go it if had the guts, or where it might end up if it's not careful. Movies can be great fun but basically aren't an escape from the world around us. They're a beautiful, sometimes perplexing, entry point into it.
