Cam Russell has no formal training as a writer, just a lifelong compulsion. Raised in a military family in various suburbs on the North American Coastal Plain, she now lives in Louisiana with her wife. She briefly studied coastal environmental science at Louisiana State University. Her poetry often deals with themes of ecology, religion, power, and geologic time. She may one day finish a novel (it will likely involve vampires).
