A literary alternative since 1974; a small, not-for-profit publisher run by authors, Fiction Collective Two is a hub for artistically adventurous, non-traditional fiction. Every year FC2 awards the Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Prize and the Catherine Doctorow Innovative Fiction Prize.

Since its origin in 1974, membership of the collective has grown from six founding author-members to well over a hundred today; we have published more than two hundred books, and continue to publish six new books every year (three in fall and three in spring).

We are committed to finding fresh and experimental works, both through member-sponsored submissions and through two annual competitions, the FC2 Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Contest and the FC2 Catherine Doctorow Innovative Fiction Prize. Published titles remain in print in perpetuity.

Fiction Collective Two

The Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Contest awards $3,000 and publication by FC2. Open to writers of, from, or in the US writing in English who have not previously published with FC2. 

In an effort to remove barriers to access, we offer fee waivers to writers for whom the submission fee would represent a significant obstacle.

Submissions may include a collection of short stories, one or more novellas, or a novel. There is no length requirement. Translations and previously published or self-published works are not eligible, although shorter works that have previously appeared in magazines or anthologies may be included in collections, provided that the collection as a whole is unpublished. 

We encourage submissions from writers who are Black, Indigenous, people of color, disabled, LGBTQIA+-identifying, immigrant, or from communities otherwise underrepresented in United States literary publications.

The FC2 Catherine Doctorow Innovative Fiction Prize is open to writers of, from, or in the United States writing in English with at least three books published.
