Here at Tiny Spoon, we are especially interested in experimental work, although not exclusively. If you’ve had trouble finding a home for your work because it doesn’t fit into generally recognized categories, chances are your home is right here with us. We seek work that pushes the boundaries of conventional genres; work that is daring, experimental, innovative, quirky, thoughtful, vulnerable, electric, eccentric. In other words, your inner workings expanded and exposed, raw and immediate; your fragile soul parted at the seams into our bound paper glossary of tiny wonder. Your voice is beautiful, edgy, infinite, and unique, and we want to raise it.

We are moving through a time that feels unfamiliar and all too familiar. Our bodies ache, uprooted. Our souls search, severed. We are tossed in the cyclone, yearning.

For Issue 15, we invite you to submit your original work on the theme Weathering. This moment demands resilience. This moment beckons us back to the communal earthbody. We are in constant motion, constant change, unable to return to our past states. 

We welcome your alchemic transformations through written word and art. We want your hybrid forms that defy boundaries and emerge like birds above storm clouds.  

We want your writing like rust / poetry like spores / prose like rhizomic roots.

What tectonic plates are shifting? Can storms sweep away oppressive systems of the past? What do we hold onto while the winds rage? How does decomposition fertilize the future? 

What is violent, happens in an instant? What is slow, almost unnoticed, the gradual residue of time?

Where does our community withstand? And how? When do we dance atop a hurricane? When do we sleep in the earth’s underground womb? When do we make each other warm soup? 

Weathering wears away. Weathering makes us stronger.
