The World of Interiors was the original indie publication. We were anti-trend long before being anti-trend became fashionable. It’s our job to place stories in your path that might challenge you, or reveal something – to supply a little grit before you find the pearl. <div>This year’s Writing Call Out is an open call dedicated to emerging voices from all over the world; and is a celebration of the myriad ways we present ourselves through the written word, through the doors that have opened (and closed) before us.</div><div><b><br></b></div><div><b>This year’s prompt is ‘Doors &amp; Drawers’. </b>What’s behind them, concealed within them, and frontiered beyond them? What curious winds are pushing them ajar? What’s slipped down the back of the cabinet, and got lost for good? Who’s knocking? In English language, and 500 words or less – in any format – be quick-witted, inventive, and surprising.</div><b><div><b><br></b></div>Who We’re Looking For</b><div><br></div><div>We seek writers worldwide whose work offers fresh and compelling perspectives across all genres – from essay to memoir, short stories, poetry and beyond. The World of Interiors x Montblanc Writing Open Call 2026

<div>We are keen on the homes of writers and artists – great creative minds reflected in the objects and furnishings they surround themselves with. We are not interested in celebrity, per se, or places that are all about ostentatious expenditure – where money is the main message. What is thrilling about these stories, in particular, is that the subjects have often been able to try out some of their most daring, experimental ideas in their own homes, without the need to compromise with clients.</div><div><br></div><div>Beyond individual dwellings, we love quirky interiors (and exteriors) that give insight to unusual or little known cultural and social histories from around the world. </div><div><br></div><div>For all WoI stories, especially those from a developing country, we prefer to commission writers who are familiar with the food, language, interior styles, religion, politics and cultural norms of the place from the inside.</div><div><br></div><div>We like narrow-sounding stories that open up into something broader. <span style="color: rgb(20 20 20/var(--tw-text-opacity,1));">Alternatively, you can take a niche aspect of a bigger story. </span></div>
