About

**The Mourning Lamp** is an independent quarterly literary journal dedicated to the beauty, sorrow, and mystery found within Gothic and dark poetry.

We believe darkness in literature should serve a purpose. Beyond the shadows, the haunted rooms, and the imagery of death and decay, there are deeper questions worth exploring: What remains when something is lost? What haunts us long after it has passed? Where do we find beauty in grief, meaning in mortality, or hope in the presence of darkness?

Our pages offer a home for poetry that wrestles with these questions. We are drawn to writing rich in atmosphere, emotional depth, and imagination, whether it explores the supernatural, the psychological, the spiritual, or the painfully human.

While we embrace the macabre, we favor restraint over shock, subtlety over sensationalism, and substance over spectacle. Our goal is not simply to unsettle readers, but to leave them with something that lingers long after the final line.

Each issue of The Mourning Lamp is built around a distinct theme, inviting poets to explore familiar human experiences through the haunting lens of Gothic literature.

Above all, we seek poetry that reminds us that even in the darkest corners of the human experience, there are stories worth telling and voices worth remembering.
