The University of San Francisco’s student-run literary journal, founded during the 1910-11 school year. We publish a collection of riveting poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and art from Bay Area residents and beyond. 

The Ignatian Literary Magazine is a student-run publication at the University of San Francisco, dedicated to showcasing a diverse array of creative works from the university community. Each fall and spring semester, the magazine publishes a collection of prose, poetry, and art, providing a platform for students to express their creativity and share their voices. Submissions are welcomed from all students, and the editorial team encourages a wide range of styles and perspectives. The magazine's website offers access to current and past issues, submission guidelines, and information about upcoming events. Additionally, readers can follow the magazine on Instagram for the latest updates and announcements. Through its biannual publications, The Ignatian Literary Magazine fosters a vibrant literary and artistic community within the university.

Ignatian Literary Magazine is University of San Francisco's official literary journal, founded during the 1910–11 school year, and run by students. Over the years, Ignatian has appeared in a multitude of iterations, ranging from an alumni magazine to an annual yearbook. Read more about our history here.     
Currently, we publish a collection of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and art (including photography) from Bay Area residents and beyond. We are currently accepting submissions for Volume 38.2, which will be published as an online issue in May 2026. Pieces may also be featured in our Volume 38 compendium, which will also be published in print in May 2026. To read our past issues, click here!

Updated Submission Guidelines, as of Nov. 2025: 

  Any submission already published elsewhere is ineligible for publication at Ignatian. This includes any writing previously published on personal blogs or websites.
  You may submit up to two poems in one submission.
  We charge a $3 submission fee to cover the costs of keeping our non-profit magazine up and running. You may submit multiple times within the submission period with additional payments of the submission fee. 
  Please use standard formatting guidelines. We prefer Times New Roman 12 pt. font, double-spaced. Single-spaced poetry is acceptable.
  All written submissions must be clearly titled and include word count.
  Contributors should not include their name or personal information on any part of the document itself.
  Include appropriate trigger warnings at the beginning of each piece.
  We will not consider work that centers either graphic violence or sex. We also will not tolerate work that promotes racism, homophobia, or other oppressive or hateful ideologies.

All submissions must include a third-person biography, which will be reprinted in the magazine should the work be accepted for publication. Include up to 50 words about your work, previous publications, and any other relevant information.  
Deadline: February 1, 2026
