Literary journal by writers, academics, critics, visual artists, and linguists: work that provokes, excites, and entertains.

Work from the HLR has been featured in Best Canadian Poetry, Best Canadian Essays, and has been nominated for a National Magazine Award. We are always looking to publish and promote more emerging artists.

HLR was launched with the intent to provide emerging writers with an opportunity to receive editorial guidance and publication credit. All Canadians are encouraged to submit. We strongly encourage BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ writers to send us their work.

Who doesn't love getting paid? Who doesn't love Canadians? The literary magazines listed below were founded in Canada and pay for published work.

Canadian Lit Mags That Pay Writers

Not just words. These magazines publish paintings, comics, illustrations, and other visual art alongside or instead of traditional text-based work.
