Fairy Tale Magazine publishes fairy tale stories and poetry that are magical, literary, and professional—with an occasional touch of whimsy. We seek global fairy tales and publish two full issues yearly. We are a thriving community of storytellers.

Once upon a time—specifically, in 2007—university writing lecturer Kate Wolford launched a humble blog called Diamonds and Toads, creating a welcoming space for students to explore and discuss fairy tales online. She hosted a fairy tale writing contest that sparked something magical: what began as Enchanted Conversation, an online literary magazine, quickly grew into a vibrant hub for fairy tale–inspired fiction and poetry from around the world.

In 2022, Enchanted Conversation officially became The Fairy Tale Magazine, carrying forward the legacy of its founder—now helmed by Publisher and Editor‑in‑Chief Kristen Baum DeBeasi. Published twice yearly (April 15 & November 1), plus a bonus mini-issue tied to our Prose & Poetry Contest (July 15), we curate rich, narratives steeped in fairy tale, folklore, and literary tradition.

Our mission is simple and heartfelt: to offer a warm online hearth where creators, scholars, lovers, and re-imaginers of fairy tales can gather. We feature:
* Original fairy tale–inspired fiction & poetry, both classic and boundary-pushing.
* Book reviews and roundups, spotlighting works that enchant and enlighten.
* Cinderella’s Hearth, a cozy space for home‑and‑hearth musings.
* Special features, including Enchanted Creator interviews, travelogues tied to myth and legend, and more.

Though many children find their way here, our content is crafted for older teens (15+) and adults who appreciate nuance, transformation, and timeless storytelling—and yes, serious literary flair.

As a project of The Enchanted Press, an Indiana nonprofit, we publish digitally and occasionally print anthologies and serialized novels—expanding the magic beyond our online pages. Our goal? To keep fairy tale traditions alive, evolving, and ever enchanting—with author pay, submission windows, and global submissions welcomed.

About the Theme: Sirens
This is a Siren Song! You are Getting Sleepy. If you have lashed yourself to a mast and put wax in your ears, we yearn to know what you see. Is it bird-women? A fish-women? How about a gender swap? Sing us your songs of friends or foes. Share your focus: is it the siren or the song? Malevolence or nature-driven protection? Is your tale a cautionary one? A tale of love? Or grief? Do you warn of treacherous waters, storms, drunken sailors seeing something fishy? We want your siren stories and poems from around the world. Anywhere there’s a sea, there’s a story to be told.

Inspirations: <div><br><div>Think gingerbread homes. Think rapunzel/rampion. Strawberries in Snow. Think of a flower you eat to become pregnant. Of the goblins mesmerizing songs, “Come buy! Come buy!” Tell us what feast might appease La Llarona. What might a raja eat in his court? Give us stories of the Magic Pot (Japanese) or poisoned food (Indian). Tells us about nuts that can heal, soup that can win the heart of a prince that’s cooked by a girl wearing all kinds of fur. Tells us the tales from the Caribbean—like Tiger’s Breakfast or Rapunzel’s sugar cane. But don’t stop there! We want fairytales from around the globe. </div><div><br></div><div> Speak to us of hunger. Desire. Power (or lack of power). Give us your best food in fairy tale style. We want your retellings. Your re-imagined “Blog” by Gretel from the heart of an edible home where you’ve been entrapped by its resident baddie. Write us a recipe perfect for a fairy tale.
