The Dial is an award-winning online magazine founded in 2023, dedicated to culture, politics, and ideas, with a focus on locally sourced writing from around the world.

It aims to provide a corrective to the shrinking sphere of English-language journalism, emphasizing diverse voices and global perspectives.

The magazine publishes investigative journalism, essays, criticism, fiction, and poetry, featuring work from over 50 countries. In addition to original reporting, The Dial partners with publications worldwide to translate their work into English for the first time.

As a nonprofit, it is committed to fairly compensating journalists, writers, and translators, basing rates on the best offer to contributors rather than geography. (thedial.world)

Publications with stories selected for America's oldest prestigious short fiction award, established in 1919. Editorial committee selections only.

In addition, we publish shorter dispatches. These might take the form of the diary of an object; reports from local literary scenes; and other modes that suggest a bit of whimsy. Pitches for these should be short and sweet.<div><br></div><div>We also accept photo stories.</div><div><br></div><div>We are not looking for travelogs or op-eds, straightforward book or movie reviews, reconsiderations of dead writers, or short uplifting stories about the power of optimism. Nor are we interested in projects that involve a writer parachuting into a place with which they’re unfamiliar.</div>
