The Apothecary is a student-run creative arts magazine based at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dedicated to building an online and open-access platform, it publishes narratives that intertwine science, medicine, and the humanities. The magazine aims to provide a receptive canvas for diverse narratives and perspectives from students, faculty, staff, and anyone interested in submitting. The name 'Apothecary' reflects the belief in the power of writing and art as antidotes to suffering and pain, serving as a medium to rationalize, reflect, and revere transformative moments or journeys. The Apothecary publishes fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and visual art. Submissions are accepted from September 1 to December 1 and February 1 to May 1, with a typical response time of three months. While the magazine accepts submissions from anyone worldwide, preference is given to patients, caregivers, faculty, staff, and students affiliated with the Mount Sinai Health System and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The magazine maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination, automatically rejecting submissions that contain racism, sexism, classism, ableism, ageism, anti-Semitism, heterosexism, or similar content.
