Ekphrastic writing for everyone. Get inspired with us!

We’re Sketches Magazine, an emerging online literary magazine dedicated to Ekphrastic writing. We believe in the value of the creative process over the perfection of the final product. We believe in the beauty of something as simple as a sketch and we’re curious about discovering how art changes us, and in turn, changes our art.

Sketches defines Ekphrasis as the production of new literary work which is inspired by and responds to various forms of art. For each volume, contributors can choose between four art prompts (these could be paintings, sculpture, choreography, musical pieces, and more) to respond to in either poetry or prose.

Our current prompts are always available on our site (www.sketchesmagazine.org) and our Instagram (@sketchesmag). We’re looking forward to seeing your creativity and inspiration!
