Best WTF Is Genre Lit Mags of 2024

Quarterly journal founded with the aim of publishing quality short form writing of any genre.

Painted Pebble Lit Mag is a quarterly journal founded with the aim of publishing quality short form writing. Like “little” pockets of literary communities, we think small works can have a big impact. Each issue is published online and as a PDF, each available for free. The PDF is formatted to be easily distributed anywhere someone might like to encounter short form work. Our mission is to celebrate our wonderfully diverse world of writers and readers by reaching them wherever they are.

We hope that this free access publication will encourage readers to find a greater sense of connection to other readers and writers, along with inspiration and enjoyment in these pages. We aspire to meet the same altruistic goals as the grass-roots mutual aid movement – expanding access to and appreciation for these short forms of literature, building community, and encouraging the discovery of kinship through the written word.

Little Free Lit Mag looks for submissions from writers who value the same spirit of generosity, accessibility and inclusivity that these shared libraries do. We seek work from and about a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

Community Favorites: Our 2024 Best Lit Mag Awards winners for WTF is genre, selected entirely by community vote. Over 500 magazines nominated with thousands of votes cast.

Looking for some fresh faces in the lit world? Hey, look no further. These fresh magazines were founded recently—your chance for early credits.

Welcome to Painted Pebble’s community. PPLM is a quarterly, no fee/no payment publication which celebrates short form writing, no matter what the genre. Our issues are released online and in PDF in the first month of each quarter, (July 1-31, October 1-31, January 1-31, and April 1-30) in a format which can be printed out and easily distributed in communities, anywhere someone might enjoy a little lit.

While we have calls under each genre, we don’t feel genre’s divisions are useful for our readers and submitters. We enjoy short-form works in all its iterations, all submissions go into the same pool of work being considered.

Prose: Please send up to three pieces, no longer than 350 words each.

SPECIAL SUUMMER CALL:
Visual Poetry ONLY. Please send your work that engages with and uses techniques that lean hard into poetry's interplay with visual elements. *NOT merely illustration.

We hope to see erasures, blackout poems, concrete poems and your inventions which make a visual element an essential part of the reading of the poem. Think Sarah Jane Sloat's gorgeous Hotel Almighty, or others listed on this great guide on Trish Hopkinson's page: https://trishhopkinson.com/2018/06/10/6-styles-of-erasure-poetry-guest-blog-post-by-erin-dorney/
