Nine Mile Magazine is a literary publication dedicated to bringing exceptional writing to readers, with a special emphasis on Central New York. Established in 2015, the magazine publishes online twice a year, showcasing diverse voices and perspectives. The name "Nine Mile" is inspired by Nine Mile Creek, a 25-mile-long waterway formed 14,000 years ago by glaciers in the region, symbolizing the magazine's commitment to varied and surprising narratives that come together to form a cohesive whole. (ninemile.org)

The magazine is committed to featuring diverse writing by diverse writers, including disabled writers/writers with disabilities; Writers of Color; writers with marginalized genders, sexual and asexual orientations, religious/nonreligious identities and belief/non-belief systems; young and senior writers; experienced and never-before-published writers; and writers from outside the proverbial mainstream. We are likewise committed to producing inclusive and accessible content, in multiple formats. Poetry is everyone’s art. (emilykmichael.com)

In addition to the magazine, Nine Mile Art Corp also publishes books and produces podcasts concerning poetry and literature by poets, authors, and artists. Their Propel Poetry initiative is dedicated to publishing books by first-rate poets with disabilities, further supporting underrepresented voices in the literary community. (ninemile.org)

More often than not, the poetry community prioritizes diversity by publishing and promoting minority and female writers, while disabled poets do not receive similar attention. The Propel Disability Poetry Book Series remedies that gap. This series is a new imprint publishing poetry written by disabled poets, edited by disabled poets, produced by Nine Mile and underwritten with generous support from Propel and the Poetry Foundation.
Submissions of book-length poetry collections (95 pages or more) by crip/disabled writers at any career stage are welcome for the next volume and award. A 12 point sans serif font is preferred.
The Propel Disability Poetry Book Series open call will be open from March 1, 2026 to August 31, 2026, for publication in 2027.
We anticipate publishing and marketing two books per year, including the Propel Disability Poetry Award winner, who will receive a $2,000 prize.
