Horror Writers Association (NC Chapter)

Online horror literary magazine looking for grungy, gothic, or gory stories from experimental voices.

NECKSNAP Magazine is a literary horror magazine founded in 2024. We strive to push through the outer boundaries of the genre, and look for work that challenges us. We want your most seizing voices, your prickliest characters, and language that is as precise as it is surprising. Show us what horror can be, and what it can become. Experiment with form, style, voice, and content. Shock us not with gore alone—although don’t be afraid to include it—but with the bracing depth of your characters and inventiveness of your voice.

These lit mags want your boundary-breaking, nerve-wracking, spine-chilling best. Editor picks from Bloodletter.

Our first ever themed issue! Issue Three's theme is FRINGE. We're looking for short fiction and poetry that pushes formal and stylistic boundaries, that explores the fringes both within your work itself and in the horror genre as a whole. We want work that is, above all, literary in nature: show us a depth of character and theme, an attention to language and voice, and work that goes beyond simple scares.

For further inspiration, you can check out our accompanying interview with Grace Krilanovich, author of The Orange Eats Creeps and the upcoming Acid Green Velvet: https://necksnapmag.com/grace-krilanovich-interview/
