We are now accepting submissions for Mukoli's 6th Issue: "Peace in Place" which explores the relationship between peace and the spaces we inhabit: the familiar and unfamiliar, the visible and overlooked, the places we call home.

At Mukoli, peace is central to our exploration of the relationship that humans share with other humans; with social, political, and cultural structures; as well as with nature and the environment. We believe that wherever there is a conflict, or a rupture in these relationships, the arts in their multitude of forms – visual, written, spoken – have the power to heal. We are especially keen to publish marginalized, conflict-affected artists and writers. We aim to amplify multiple perspectives and aesthetics from globally diverse writing and artistic traditions.

Mukoli is open! We invite submissions for our 5th issue, which will be contest-based across four categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Multimedia Art. We seek work that engages with themes of peacebuilding, healing, and changemaking in our world. Each submission must include a 200–250 word Statement of Connection, describing how the work contributes to Mukoli’s approach to peacemaking.

Familiarize yourself with our guidelines, editorial policy, and genres and send us your best work. We look forward to reviewing your submissions!

Our current submission window for the contest is open up to 31 Oct ’25. Submissions received after 31 Oct. ‘25 will not be read.

The Mukoli Contest

In a world torn by war and conflict, peace seems elusive everywhere. And yet, if we look closely enough, we can find it in the very places and spaces we inhabit every day. At Mukoli, we believe that peace is as intrinsic to the human condition as violence and conflict. We just need to recognize and amplify it, making it visible. That is how we take the power away from violence and drown the voices that incite conflict.<div><br><div>With this as our starting point for exploring the relationship between place and peace, we are seeking submissions for Issue 6 of Mukoli. We invite you to interpret the theme as you will, so long as you are placing peace and finding it a ground to stand on.
