Do you have a space of your own? How do you define space? Do you take space or does the space take you? For diasporic people, how do you obtain a space of your own when you are constantly on the move? Is it a cafe that you seek, or do you put up sound-absorbing materials on your wall?

For our second issue One’s Own【空】, we are drawing on the concept of space: a room of your own, the universe, the sky, leaving whiteness, emptiness, silence… What’s left in the things unsaid? Is the glass half empty or half full (or does it simply contain wine)? 空 also refers to the idea in Buddhist philosophy, śūnyatā, pointing out the ever-shifting nature of any being: eternality is merely an illusion. Define it however you want, in your own way—but what is something that’s truly yours? What do you make of the possessive?
