Months To Years is a quarterly digital literary journal that publishes nonfiction (up to 2,500 words), poetry, art, and photography related to grief and loss.

Founded in 2017 by Renata and Tim Louwers after both lost their first spouses at a relatively young age, Months To Years seeks to be a creative space for reflection and healing through creativity, and through the written word in particular.

Months To Years sponsors monthly Grief-Wriiting Circles as well as periodic themed submission calls.

Months to Years

Months To Years is seeking previously unpublished (including on a website, blog, or Substack) nonfiction of up to 2,500 words related to grief and loss in the context of war, refugee experiences or famine. We are interested in true stories of grief and  loss in the context of the chaos that engulfs many corners of the world these days.
Selected works will be published in a future issue of Months To Years.
We are accepting submissions until July 10, 2025. Please do not submit the same work you have submitted to the regular Months To Years submissions cycle.

Nonfiction - War, Refugees, Famine

Months To Years is seeking previously unpublished (including on a website, blog, or Substack) poetry related to grief and loss in the context of war, refugee experiences or famine. We accept original, previously unpublished photography and art that explores grief and loss. We look forward to reviewing your best creative work. Your work must be yours alone and cannot be generated in whole or part by artificial intelligence (AI) or other similar tools.

Please ensure that the resolution of your photography or art submission is at least 300 ppi. Submissions that are not at least 300 ppi as well as submissions that are screenshots will be declined.

"Previously unpublished" means it has not been published in another publication (hard copy or digital) nor has it been published online on a website or blog.

We may opt to pause or close the call for submissions early if we receive a large volume of submissions. Therefore, it is advantageous to submit early if you want to ensure that your work will be considered.
