Limn is an experiment in collaborative inquiry. Published in print and open-access online editions, the journal gathers scholars, artists, and activists to illuminate—or limn—problems emerging at the interface of technology, politics, and contemporary life.

Limn is a scholar-led, non-profit publication—and itself an experiment in intellectual form and function. Collaboration, curation, and design are at the heart of who we are and what we do. At Limn, we look at things differently. We respond to the concerns of the present by working collaboratively to cast the world in fresh, unexpected light. Each Limn issue takes on a particular topic and challenges contributors from diverse fields and backgrounds to explore it at oblique angles. Working creatively and collaboratively, Limn’s goal is to provide clear, quick-hitting, and well-designed interventions that are both timely and timeless.

Limn

Limn works through curation and collaboration to produce topic-based collections where meaning emerges through dialogue, juxtaposition, and contrast. Our editorial activity organizes around issues, each of which is a project unto itself. In each issue, we cooperate with guest editors to bring together a group of contributors (scholars, artists, activists, and more) who illuminate the problem at hand from different angles. Limn is always looking for exciting pitches for issues, but we do not accept unsolicited article submissions. <div><br></div><div>Every issue moves through a multi-step process: Pitch, Prompt, Create, Collaborate, Editorial Review, and Design/Publish. This process currently takes approximately 15 months from pitch to publication. It is collaborative, rigorous, and quick—slightly different from your standard scholarly fare.</div><div><br></div><div>We invite potential guest editors to pitch ideas for issues to the Limn editorial collective. This short pitch should clearly engage with our mission: curating conversations that illuminate – or limn – a contemporary problem differently. Pitches should introduce the central problem, explain your angle or intervention, and list potential contributors (ideally from a variety of fields and career stages). The editorial collective meets twice a year to evaluate pitches for our next publication cycle. We aim to send out decisions within three weeks of the meeting.</div>

Pitches

We seek proposals that reframe contemporary problems and illuminate the world anew. We want to collaborate with guest editors to develop projects that change the conversation or start a conversation that can’t happen elsewhere.<div><br></div><div>Please approach your pitch as an incitement to think and create together. Before proposing a future issue, be sure to familiarize yourself with Limn’s mission and style in order to ensure that your project is a good fit. </div>
