Publishing work that is daring in subject, craft, tone, and genre, the Journal of Experimental Practice is a peer-edited publication produced through XE: Experimental Humanities & Social Engagement at NYU.

The Journal of Experimental Practice publishes hybrid works, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, literary work with visual elements, and forms of scholarly writing. We seek work that transcends formal constraints and inhabits spaces between genres. Our mission is to promote and publish an expansive range of creative and intellectual work that contest boundaries of writing.

The Journal of Experimental Practice is an interdisciplinary journal housed in the Experimental Humanities & Social Engagement department in New York University’s Graduate School of Art and Sciences. The journal is run by an editorial collective drawn from current students in the XE program. Each editorial cohort brings their own vision to the task of curating the issues. The Journal of Experimental Practice will publish new editions of the journal at the end of the fall and spring semesters.

The Journal of Experimental Practice seeks work that is daring in subject, craft, tone, and/or genre. We aim to forward experimental practices of both form and content with particular interest in work that engages concepts and aesthetics informed by study outside the strictly creative realm. This is a rolling deadline with priority given to those submitted earliest, but we will not accept submissions after March 31st.

As theme, antagonism can be a direct conceptual and political provocation or a relational dynamic, but antagonism can also be explored through association, implication, narrative, tone, style, and format. How might experimental practice antagonize?
