Flooded Pine Press

Publishing critical essays on livable tomorrows in New England and beyond.

Flooded Pine Press, founded in the wake of the 2024 turn toward far-right politics in the United States, gathers and circulates essays that imagine local and regional actions for a livable tomorrow. We, the editors, are based in what is now New Hampshire and Maine and use our positions as graduate students to punch up to power and privilege in our home communities. We believe in a ferment of critical thought and relations that applies pressure at key points in our systems of power and collaborates toward the creation of joyful futures.

Flooded Pine Press is seeking poetry for inclusion in our upcoming anthology: Apothecary for the Future: A Collection for Coming Days.
Receive an offering of jars and bottles, pastes and poultices. Each holds something for you, with the days to come in mind. The dirt offers steadiness. The stream offers clarity. What is offered to you?
There are no promised cures. Just tools for tending to one another. See our website for an additional ekphrastic prompt, based on an art exhibit, also titled Apothecary for the Future, by Laura Torraco.
We invite submissions of up to three poems to be considered for publication in this collection. Poems should respond in some way to the theme "apothecary for the future": looking ahead while working with what we find here and now.

Please reach out with any questions or submit up to five poems for consideration at floodedpinepress@gmail.com before March 31st. If selected, one or two poems per poet will be included in the anthology and workshopped with feedback from editors. We offer a small honoraria of $20 per poem (and wish it could be more!). Expected publication in late spring or early fall 2026.

Apothecary for the Future: Call for Poetry

We want to see pieces that speculate, critique, and locate. Joy and Solidarity in the Anthropocene seeks essays, fiction, or poems rooted in place that speak to specific perspectives, trends, or histories and envision a regional transformation away from ecological crisis to possible futures.

A non-exhaustive list of what we want to center includes:
the potential for livable futures, where communities and solarpunk adaptation are at the center of a new culture and life ethic.
new mappings of place that point to possible abundances, processes of recovery, or territorial renewal; non-dominant perspectives, especially intersecting non-dominant perspectives, including Indigenous/First Peoples, recent immigrants or arrivants, Black/Latinx/racialized people, queer and trans* people, & more.

We're particularly interested in New England, as the colonial name for the territory where this press operates, but welcome stories rooted anywhere.
