In short, we are a group of writers and editors who created something for those who want more from what they read and write. We are dedicated to working with writers who have created stories that are more than what they seem.

ELA Literary Magazine is a UK-based literary magazine dedicated to publishing fiction that surprises, delights, and occasionally unnerves. We’re looking for writing that demonstrates there’s always another way to tell a story, and reminds us why we fell in love with stories in the first place.

As three friends from across the UK with a shared love for literature, we have a desire to create something new, accessible, and fun for writers. We’re passionate about discovering stories that subvert expectations, challenge tired tropes, and explore the beautiful complexity of human connection through fresh and unexpected lenses.

The end of the world

Meow! Everything and anything – so long as it’s about cats!<div><br></div><div>Pepper got tired of answering emails and demanded to be more involved in the production of the magazine, and when we asked: “Okay, what’s the next theme?” We knew his meow meant “CATS, CATS, CATS!”</div><div><br></div><div>Reimagine the stories of famous cats, tell your take on cat-based mythologies, give us POVs from house cats and wild cats. Fantastical cats. Horrific cats. Adventurous cats. Robot cats. Mischievous cats. Cat cats. Hopefully it’s clear enough, but if not, we want you to make a cat (or cats) the focal point of your story, whether literally as the protagonist(s) or features in your story, or more symbolically as the central theme. </div><div><br></div><div>We are aiming for this issue to be utterly meow-tastic! And Pepper demands it – so we can’t disappoint. If you have an idea for a feline fable, we want to read it!</div>

Purrfect Tales

What does the word: Anniversary mean to you?<div><br></div><div>As the ELA Literary Magazine is coming to its one year anniversary, we thought we’d do something extra special to celebrate. Alongside our prose issue, we are also opening the floor to poets and artists for a more abstract issue. </div><div><br></div><div>For this issue, we want you to take the word: Anniversary and be inspired by it. We want to see what you do when you have free reign to decide what this means to you. All we ask is that whatever you produce inspires us too!</div><div><br></div><div>If you are submitting poetry: Like our prose, we don’t have a specific format for you to send us your poetry, however, please keep your poems under 100 lines (including stanza breaks).</div><div><br></div><div>If you are submitting artwork: We only accept digital artwork, though this can be scans of real work you’ve done. Send us it in .PNG format as this is the easiest format to integrate into the final magazine. </div>
