Doubleback Review is a grateful child of Sundress Publications and affectionate sibling of Doubleback Books. We publish pieces that were previously published at journals that, sadly, became defunct.


Doubleback Review is a home for your retired darlings—pieces of any genre that were published by a journal that subsequently became defunct. We only publish previously-published work from journals that no longer exist; we do not publish previously unpublished work nor previously published work that is still available online or in active print circulation.

Doubleback Review only considers work previously published at a now-defunct journal, and which does not appear anywhere online.

Doubleback Review is committed to lifting the voices of traditionally marginalized groups, including but not limited to people of color, LGBTQI+ people, people with disabilities, and those with femme identities, and we specifically encourage these folks to submit.

Hayli May Cox is a PhD Candidate studying English/Creative Writing and Women's and Gender Studies at The University of Missouri, though she's really a Michigander. She currently serves as Editorial and Publicity Assistant for Persea Books as well as Nonfiction editor at Doubleback Review. In her free time Hayli paints, builds with Lego, critter watches, and hikes around with a backpack full of field guides.

Mark Hendrickson is a poet who recently relocated to the Des Moines area.  His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Synkroniciti, Lothlorien Poetry Journal, Honeyguide, Dark Onus Lit, and Swing.  Before becoming a poet, Mark worked for many years as a mental health technician in a locked psychiatric unit.
