Cut Me Up Magazine is a participatory magazine of visual call and response, founded by Andrea Burgay in 2018. Each issue presents a curated selection of original collage images that serve as raw material for reader-artists to cut, reconfigure, and transform into new artworks. 

These responses form the content of the subsequent issue, fostering an ongoing dialogue within the collage art community. 

The magazine features guest curators who provide thematic calls for each issue, encouraging artists to explore specific concepts and approaches to collage. Notable curators have included Max-O-Matic, Valerie Hegarty, and Michael Oatman.

 Cut Me Up has celebrated milestones such as its fifth anniversary symposium at Kolaj Fest New Orleans in June 2023. The magazine continues to engage artists worldwide, with upcoming issues and events planned into 2026.

Razzle Dazzle

Razzle Dazzle invites artists to explore pattern in all its contradictions—as pure surface design or containing deeper symbolism, as strategy or accessory, as structure or shimmer. Patterns can protect and reveal, soothe and unsettle, clarify and confuse. Pattern may emerge from the smallest gesture or mark which then gathers meaning through repetition, a gentle rhythm that steadies, or builds until it becomes vibration, distortion, blur.

All eligible submissions must:

Respond to and incorporate some portion of Cut Me Up Issue 16: Ritual & Collage.

Orientation: Artwork must be vertical (portrait).

Final image size: Files should be 10.25" high x 8.25" wide. (The final printed area/trim size is 10" x 8".)

Resolution: 600 dpi. 

Flatbed scan: (preferred): Scan to .TIF format.

Photograph: Use a digital SLR camera at the highest resolution and largest image size settings (600 dpi preferred; 300 dpi minimum).

Be limited to a maximum of three (3) submissions per artist

Razzle Dazzle

Exploring the multifaceted theme of rituals through collage, including traditional, personal, and invented rituals, as well as the act of collage-making as a ritualistic process.

Ritual & Collage

Artists are invited to create collage works reflecting on one public institution or space in a city that promotes meaningful collective experience. Submissions must incorporate material from Cut Me Up Issue 17: Razzle Dazzle and follow specific size and format requirements for both publication and a physical exhibition at Tiger Strikes Asteroid gallery in Brooklyn, NY, January 2027. Maximum three submissions per artist. No submission fee.
