Camas cultivates a community of writers and artists dedicated to land health and cultural resilience in the American West. We pursue fresh ideas and perspectives while remaining rooted in the West's landscapes and traditions of art and literature.

Camas Magazine is a student-run literary journal founded in 1992 by Environmental Studies graduate students at the University of Montana.

Dedicated to the landscapes and traditions of the American West, Camas publishes biannually, featuring nonfiction, fiction, poetry, art, and photography that explore themes of nature, place, and culture.

The magazine provides a platform for emerging writers and artists to showcase their work alongside established voices, fostering a community committed to land health and cultural resilience.

Tell us what’s happening in your little piece of the Mountain West. Strange traditions, local legends, the most perfect slices of fly-fishing heaven, the greatest desserts your town has to offer. Notes From the Field is an on-the-ground who’s who and what’s what of life in this place we call home – things that wouldn’t make the mainstream news. The quirky. The adorable. The small and beautiful.
