Since 1998, after nonprofit incorporation, we have published Barrow Street.

A nonprofit literary arts organization that was started in Greenwich Village, NYC in 1994 to provide community outreach and host literary events featuring emerging and established poets. 

Each year we also publish a prizewinning poetry collection chosen by a distinguished contest judge and recently launched our annual prose book contest. 

Select finalists from both contests are also eligible for publication and are reviewed by an all-volunteer board of editors, contributing editors, and outside reviewers. 

We publish six to eight titles a year. Ocean State Review is our affiliate journal.

Send us your forms and your formless, your weird darlings, your rough edges, your overcorrected. We want to read it all. Emerging, seasoned, somewhere in between, we're interested in poets writing from all stages, locations, and perspectives. 

BARROW STREET PRESS POETRY BOOK CONTEST

The Barrow Street Press Poetry Book Contest, open to new as well as established poets, is awarded for a book-length collection of poems written originally in English. The winner will receive book publication by Barrow Street Press, and $1,500.

The Barrow Street Editors Prize will be awarded to a manuscript of extraordinary merit. The winner will receive a book contract and publication with Barrow Street Press.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Submit a 50-80 page unpublished manuscript of original poetry in English. Please number the pages of your manuscript and include a table of contents. An acknowledgments page is optional.

Important note: manuscripts by current and former students and close friends of the contest judge will not be considered. If for any reason the contest judge is unable to choose a winner, the editorial board will make the final decision.
